Your Friday Girl

© Carol Reffold – July 2004

I watch him on his sofa,
and see him lie in state
I wonder what he's thinking
and I praise his loving mate.

Independence now a past time thing,
Always a carer on hand.
It must be a matter of anguish
that things are not as planned.

Plans, once made for retirement,
now under major review.
Physical things, like climbing Ayers Rock,
something he just can't do.

So my dear friends, I honour you
as you've let me share your strife
and, as my reward, just being here,
you enrich, and enhance my life.
