What a surprise i got when I looked at all the posts for to-day. I have done a Bernie with this I just finished it but have not polished it, and even my wife has now seen or corrected it .

Australia

From the heights of Kosciusko to the lake that disappears
This land has seen mighty changes over 30,000 years
The coast line has been altered some river beds are dry
But the Sun goes right on shining there in a blue Australian sky

From the Queensland Daintree Forest to the Gibson desert sands
Spirit pictures tell of the dreamtime they’ve been sent to many lands
This land has given shelter to many different kinds and creed
Those who we call Anzacs are a combined Australian breed

From her many golden beaches to all the treasures of the bush
To the vineyards and the paddocks that with rain can be so lush
She has given up her bounty in her silver seas and streams
But that is not just why I love her or why an Australian dreams

From green Gippsland to the Alice and the dried up river Todd
To the hills covered with eucalypts where no human foot had trod
Dressed in winter there are snowfields spread across the hills
That challenge many different people with their Australian skills

From rivers way up in Queensland or the Snowy mountain sides
To where the Murray exits and meets the ever changing tides
You can see the changing colours that this mighty river brings
The wedge tail eagle sees the land beneath Australian wings

From the apple isle of Tassie to that big state out in the west
To Cape York up in the north each think our own is the best
Do I really have to tell you of why you should be so proud
You are part of this great country one of an Australian crowd

From the time I got the feeling of how much this place meant
Not just the landscape and the scenery or the wild Boronia scent
But that sense of contribution I would be available in all strife
And gladly pay my dues with thanks for this Australian life

From a migrant who has lived here for the best years of my life
I say don’t forget your home land but don’t let it cause you strife
Assimilate straight from the heart get out and share a beer
If there is a clash of sporting events just give an Australian cheer

My thanks to you Bernie, Kym, Therese, and you Ross . I felt that I had to write Australia ever so strongly I had two others on the go . Maybe it is because Anzac is coming soon . Ross I met Croc twice during the past week you two were doing a good job posting an open poem on Franks site when I discovered it. Could you  let us have another look at it please .  James

Great write mate,

It is so Australian that I would not have known you were from elsewhere if you hadn't said so.

Cheers

Tom.

Hey James,
If you run into croc or Glenny, get them to send me an email will you? I spoke to Glenny in January and she had just got back from Tamworth, but croc had stayed down south with his brother I believe, Glenny was having trouble with her computer at that stage and was going to send me an email so I had her adress when she got it fixed, I still haven't heard from her, I could ring her I supose but mention it if you see either of them please.

Thanks to you also all the best Tom , Zondrae on Sunday the 15th April the Beaudesert Bush Bards organised a workshop with Noel Stallard doing the instructing it was a well attended day. Glenny and Croc came and when we stopped for a sausage sizzle I sat with them both. I Told them that they had been mentioned and were missed by some people on the site. They turned up at our monthly meeting and took part in the readings.
I will do as you asked Ross and will be in touch. By the way Heyu has been off the air again just in case you are wondering about his silence James

G'day James,
Thanks mate, I remembered that I had Glenny's mobile number in my phone from when I went over there last year to the comps, I rang her after I got off the phone and got her new adress so  " it's all good " as the kids say. But thanks anyway.

James

Not sure what country you came from, but it seems it certainly is Australias gain that you came over here!!  Smiley

You have created a wonderful picture of australia - thanks for sharing such a lovely poem with us all.

Please say 'Hi' to Glenny and Croc when you see them next - and tell them that it would be great to see them back on the site. I always found them so supportive of newbies, and always willing to offer good, constructive critique when someone asked for it. (And, most of all, I thoroughly enjoyed their poetry as well!!! )
