“Together We Get By…”
I see a misted rain that’s falling, hiding hillside slopes from sight. Hear a distant night bird calling, as twilight shadows ebb to night. Now a chilly wind starts blowing, numbing blood flow in my veins. Callused hands together rubbing, spread warmth that still remains.
Feel wearied, old, to some extent, but old timers must not complain. Or curse the legs, all saddle bent, that vainly plead for youth again.
So, you look ragged, a little worn, but old swag, you’re snug and dry. I’ll bed down till comes the morn, c’mon ol’ body, together we get by…

Well put, Bernie. Sometimes I wonder where your ideas come from, but this one seems more straightforward.
Personal experience, eh?
(I used to be a long distance runner—50 to 80 km—but the legs won't do 1 km these days. The legs of youth have long since gone.)
Cheers
Tom.

Tom your line "The legs of youth are long since gone " are too good to pass. Ergo. James
The legs of youth are long since past and I am old and weary But I have memories of other times I can see when I am teary The nights I danced the whole night through and watched the darkness brighten Still come to me when they are called and I feel my whole life lighten ........

my brother and his partner use a swag. they regularly live between tassie and north queensland, (our nomads, lol) it too is looking a little ragged round the edges, but he wouldn't swap it for the world

I spend as much time in a swag as I do in my bed at home, mine isn't tattered, it's nearly brand new, I lost my last one out of the back of the ute. This is my fourth swag, worn two out, lost one and have a new one! Can't say that I wouldn't swap it for the world, though I have some of my best sleep in a swag. Don't very often sleep on the ground anymore, between the joe blakes and the fact it is so hard to get back up these days, it is usually on a bed or at least a camp stretcher.
