Hi Irene,
The apple tree was a biblical reference to the start of motherhood. and I am re-posting 'Why Me' just for you in case you haven't seen it before.
WHY ME © Zondrae King (02/05)
Why does it always have to be me who turns off the light or turns on the TV who vacuums the carpet or answers the door and picks up the toys scattered over the floor. Is it because I saw your first smile?
Why is it always that I am the one to stop the adventures or cancel the fun. Why must I call out ‘ok that’s enough” when tempers are rising and play gets too rough. Is it because I found your first tooth?
I want to know, who made it the rule that I was the one who would take you to school. I stood at the gate and I tried not to cry. Why did I have to smile as I waved you goodbye. Is it because I heard your first word?
Why am I always expected to know the rules of the game and the name of that show. And why do you tell me that things are not fair when I won’t allow you to shave off your hair. Is it because I kissed your first bruise?
Why is it I lay awake every night worrying if you will turn out all right. Will todays modern practices lead you astray or have you been listening to things that I say. Is it because I lead your first steps?
Yes I know that its time and you’re going away. You think you’re all grown and you leave me today. Why do I pray that I’ve taught you enough and the big world outside here won’t treat you too rough. Is it because I wiped your first tear?
What will I do when I don’t need to say will you please clean your room and put your things away. And that din you call music, I’ll miss it a lot but I know that the shower at least will be hot. Will I recall how you fed at my breast?
Now who’ll do your washing and make sure you eat and lend you some cash when you find ends don’t meet. Will the space and the quiet be to much to bear? And when you don’t phone does it mean you don’t care? Can I stop wond’ring if you are safe?
I know that I raised you to stand on your own I’m proud of the person you are now you'r grown Why would I hope that you might think me wise? Why is it me who still offers advice? Why me? Just because I’m a mother

morning Manfred,
You seem to have been very quite lately. Is everything OK round your way? Or is it that I've been spending too much time on the site waiting and watching? I was expecting you to do a line or 2 on Kyms party.

Hi Zondrae,
Manfred was away for the weekend but managed to spare time to do a job for me. He went to the Caboolture Country Music Festival and on Sunday morning accepted my prizes for the written comp and said the winning poem on stage for me (ten thousand times better than I would have done). I'll catch up with him at Bundy to see what I won. Don't worry, he's looking after me!
See ya',
Kym.

Goodoh, As long as we are all ok, I'm happy. By the way does anyone know anything about musical saws? ? Is there a particular bow that is used to play them? or will any fiddle bow do.

Wow Zondrae, that's one of the suddenest changes of topic I've seen for a while - from motherhood to playing the saw? What brought that up? And Manfred - what do you mean OOOOPS?? Manfred ... come back here ... what did you do, or what DIDN'T you do?? ... Manfred ... MANFRED!!

Hi Kym,
At the National there is a venue called the Stock Camp which is pretty much 'open mike'. H and Jane do a fantastic job keeping the passing crowd entertained. It is set up to look like a drovers camp and has a display of old horse paraphernalia, photos, cow bells and whips etc. all enclosed by a post and rail fence and mockup slab sided hut. They serve damper and billy tea and stew as well as a spit roast lamb and camp oven vegies. Now you can get the scene. They had some real old timers this year playing the fiddle, the saw, the bones, the spoons etc. these old gents also told stories of their experiences. Wayne loved it and spent quite a bit of time hanging round there. He has managed to fossick out a musical saw but without a bow. I thought someone may know something about this subject. I'll repeat this is 'have a yarn'. Any information would be appreciated.

There is a bloke out our way that plays the saw beautifully. It's an extremely haunting instrument, although I must admit, not suitable to every song. He also makes beautiful instruments such as accordians and whistles (of which I have one - a beautiful C). He and his wife play a vast range of instruments between them and can often be found playing at the local bush dances.
I've watched him a few times, and as far as I can tell, he just uses a violin bow. I think that the edge of the saw is smoothed so as not to serrate the horsehair of the bow. My hubby plays violin, so I'd probably have noticed if the bow were showing signs of distress.

Babe,
Thanks for that. We have bought a bow on ebay. I'll let you know what happens.

You'll probably need some rosin too - it gives the bow some friction to help with the sound.

(ignoring Manfreds crudeness) morning Babe,
Yes we bought rosin and we have sound! Now we just have to work out how to make music. Found a great website with lessons etc. Just a matter of practice now. Thanks for your input.

Good on you for doing something out of the ordinary Zondrae! Is it just a normal-out-of-the-back-shed kind of saw? I'd be interested to know the site with lessons - don't know that I'd have the time or patience to actually do it, but it would be interesting to see.
