One of our (Aussie) Country Music Sheilas put out a song with the line: "... and Ah lahk men in TRERKS!" ... well I couldn't let that go ...

Utes Are Out
(c) Manfred Vijars - January 2007

An Aussie blonde, sweet looking girl -
and singer of renown
seems to think 'home-grown' is bad
in spite of 'Aussie' crown.

Produces records overseas;
with foreign labour too -
our local talent's overlooked.
(Her records feign True Blue).

So take our cash, that's quite alright
but here's what really irks -
Aussie 'Blokes in Utes' are out
what's in, is "Men in Trerks"!

(sorry Melinda, not a fan anymore)

and then there is the lovely Liz Frencham who sings

"Give me a man in a Blundstone boot
who rides round town in a rusty ute
(then something about) a second hand suit."

and I can't recall the rest but it's a beaut song anyway.

i love when jigzag does their 'dying cockie' dance...when they end up on the floor, and then get back up, while still playing and not missing a beat.  very clever

Hi Therese,
Where do you see Jigzag? They are fantastic aren't they. They regularly play all the Festivals I go to and I am sad if they are missing. Liz has so many other projects though.  She used to live not too far from me but now has moved to Melbourne. Caroline has a new group called Hi Fidelity. They are more a mostly 'string music' group, not as much fun as Jigzag. On a different note; are you familiar with Martin Pearson?

hee hee,

Fred Smith is not her boyfriend. He is a songwriter/singer/funny man in his own right. Liz lives in Melbourne with Steve Vella who also is a musician. (who is much more handsome than Fred) Fred is a very interesting person, having served in the Army in places like Boganville and PNG in the peace keeping forces. He has made a movie about his time in Boganville. I have seen Frencham/Smith several times (I have their CD) and also Fred appearing solo. Definitely worth a look and listen.
