"VAGABOND".

I've lived my time as so many others…
the daily grind…the daily strife.
But how I now wish I'd been a rover,
just a vagabond, all my life.

To have wandered, and philandered,
as the seasons passed, and came.
And tasted the forbidden pleasures,
in far off places with no name.

A soldier of fortune, never dwelling,
always roving, day by day.
A fickle rogue gathering memories,
of his conquests on the way.

Ever unrestrained, and never fettered,
by loves soon left behind.
Each change a new place, new faces,
more loving trysts to find.

To have heard new tales and legends,
in a thousand dingy bars.
Shared cloistered life with city masses,
or lone peace under the stars.

To have made true lasting friendships,
at the far corners of the earth.
Real people, of varied race and station,
those comrades of true worth.

To leave this world at journey's ending,
leaving none, to be distressed.
No soul mate, no off spring, left grieving,
just a vagabond, at final rest.
