Daughter of a Bushman – Written by Bec Lawson

Born and raised in Queensland
I was the daughter of a bushman
Surrounded by the dirt and dust
It was such a dry and baron land

I thought I was missing out on life
All I wanted was to break free
The city life looked so damn good
Now I know where I’d rather be

I traveled around to unknown places
Far and wide I did roam
Lived my life and moved to the city
But never found a place like home

The dirt and dust it runs in my veins
It is strong and it flows deep
I still think about that baron land
It’s in my dreams when I sleep

My Dad is now a part of that place
He is buried deep in the land
And I am very proud to say
I am the daughter of a bushman

G'day Bec,

Have you heard The Waifs song "Fishermans Daughter"? This poem reminded me of the song. It is always heartwarming to hear someone who is proud of humble beginnings and appreciated their parents life. You leave me wanting more.

Hello Zondrae

I have not heard that song but will have to look it up - thanks for your kind feedback.  It is 6 years tomorrow since my Dad passed so I decided to put these poems up in his memory.  Once a bushman always a bushman or in this case proud to be the daughter of a bushman.

Cheers
