Many thanks to all who entered the Cervantes Written Competition, and my apologies for being a little late getting the results out.
I will send a list of the winning entries to all who enclosed envelopes in the near future.

The results were as follows:

Winner: The Miners Church - Val Read

Highly Commended: The Last Swagman - David Campbell
The Old Bush Poet - Val Read

Commended: Day Dreams - Terry Piggot
Once in Derby - Alison Underwood
Where The Ashburton River Flows - Terry Piggot
                  River Birds - Val Read

There were 43 entries this year, covering a good selection of topics. In the judges comments, mention was made of several other poems - I have included those comments below.

There were several poems that deserve mention, even though they suffered from inconsistencies.

Original story lines and concepts   are displayed in  "The Charity Collector"  (this has the makings of a great 2 part performance piece)  and  "The Aftermath"  (the "loo" version - we've all been there at some time),

Difficult Social issues were to be found in "Lost" (tackling Alzheimers Disease)   and   "Darfurs Disgrace"  (which compared Australian life to that of war torn refugees )  - I commend writers who are able and willing to tackle such social issues head on with dignity, sensitivity and understanding.

"The Aftermath" (bushfire version)  and  "Song of Wittenoom" deserve mention for being very descriptive.

Among those who achieved the necessary standard for placement, most were reflective poems
