Hello All

Sorry about the delay in getting this forum back online

Quote
The unfortunate thing is that I have lost the database for the Forum.

That’s incorrect, the database is on my hard drive, safe & sound Smiley

I enlisted some voluntary help and the database was supposed to be back online last Thursday, but it didn't happen for one reason or another.

I am the guy who Ric enlisted to help with the move of his forum from the old host to the new host.

Here is what happened & why the old forum has not been restored yet:

1.   In my spare time I help people with there phpbb forums, & I don’t get paid for this, my fulltime job is a web site designer & due to the nature of my work as I am a freelancer web designer I don’t know when I will get work

The day that I said to ric I would help him, I had no work & I was bored , but the next day or day or so later after I said to ric I would help him I started getting work from my boss which was ok as non of the work I had was big & I still had time to help ric with the move over but latter on in the week I got this 10 hour job which was a BIG job and as I get paid for my web designer work, I hade to put ric’s site on the backburner in till I had completed this job, which I have now done.

That is one of the reasons for the delay in moving the database over,

2.   the other reason was the size of the database, the forum database was 7 mb ( I know this seems small but with the database restore tool you can only upload  a max of 1 MB so that means splitting up the database in to 1 mb chunks & then restoring it.

Splitting up the database takes a far amount of time & also uploading the database also take a far amount of time as I only 128K uploads speed which does not help things.

The good news is next month (May) I will be able to finch this off, I would do it sooner but the site that ric ask for help on is currently offline as it ran out of bandwidth ( as on this site ric sent me a PM with his database login info so I cant login to compete it)

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused & don’t worry we will be able to merge this database with the old one (Hopefully) Smiley

If you have any questions/problems/ comments your welcome to post them below

Best Regards

G'day Stu,

Thanks for posting that.  I have replied privately to you as you know.

Getting the old posts back will be appreciated by everyone on the Forum, not just me.

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok. They know me here.
