This year, the tiny township of Thangool will host the Banana Shire Australia Day Celebrations and will be holding a Written Patriotic Australian Bush Poem Competition.
There will be four sections: Open, Junior U15, Banana Shire Open, Banana Shire Junior U15.
Entry will be free (but prize money will not be decided upon until the next committee meeting - I will let you know as soon as I know).
Entries are limited to 60 lines in length, and no limit to the number of entries per person. Please attach a cover sheet showing author's name, address, phone number, title of poem, and certification that it is the author's original composition (and juniors will need to include a date of birth).
Poems must not have won a first, second or third in a previous competition, or published for the monetary gain of the author.
Include SSAE if you want your poem returned or competition results.
Closing date will be 15th January 2007. Winners will be announced and recited at the Red Steer Hotel, Thangool, on Australia Day. Winning poems may be published in the Central Telegraph or BAnana Shire Focus magazine.
Post entries to me: Kym Eitel, PO Box 15, Thangool. Qld. 4716, for collection (I am not the judge).
I look forward to heaps of entries .......
Thanks,
Kym Eitel

Just a reminder about this competition. I know with Christmas and all the hassle that goes with it, it's easy to forget about entering poetry comps.
Hey, it's free entry - you can't get much better than that!
Kym.Moderator edit. Colour changed Kym. Some of us poor colour blind people wouldn't have been able to read your post!!

Well isn't it nice to see that 50% of the winners in the Open Section are members of the Forum. Obviously something to be said for the exercise of one's talents online.....
Congratulations to you all.
