G'day all,

I have just received the results of the Charlee Marshall Bush Poetry Comp.

Winner Ellis Campbell."What Price Progress"
a tie for second by two poems (both) written by Ellis Campbell - 'The Typical Bloke' & 'Missing'

two Highly commended. Terry Piggott and Val Read - 'The Call Of TheOutback' and 'The Black Pearl'

Three encouragement Awards. Ellis Campbell, Ellis Campbell, Z king
'Universal Moon', 'For The Love Of Linda Lees' and 'The Whale Boat'

This poem of mine (8th in line) was the one I wrote in response to the picture of the wreck of a clinker boat, we had for a homework topic some time back.

No doubt about Ellis Campbell, he proves again and again that he is one of the best writer of Bush Verse in our time. Lets hope his work becomes respected and lauded as the Lawson or Paterson of our age. Taking out five of the eight awards, one wonders how many poems he enters in each competition. His body of work must be gigantic.

Congrats to all of you - damn fine job - damn fine.  Just goes to show with Ellis you can't keep a good man down and heartily concur with your comment Zondrae - a master at work - may he become the Lawson of our time.

Very proud to be associated with you fine people - I raise my glass (cuppa actually) to you all.

Cheers

G'day All

It's great to see blokes like Ellis Campbell going as strongly as he is. He was runner-up in the Blackened Billy at Tamworth this year and also made the final in the Golden Damper performance competition. Congratulations to Ellis.

Congratulations to Val, Terry and Zondrae for their placings in this competition.

Regards

Hi Zondrae & John,

I know Zondrae liked that poem 'The Whale Boat' so I was pleased to see it get an award, That home work topic has now thrown up three awards that I'm aware of, my one 'The Valma June' has had two as well. It just goes to show the value of doing homework, even though the original draft may need a bit of a polish to bring it up to Comp. standard, but then again so do most of the poems we write.
Another thing I've noticed is that although a homework poem may not have comp potential, you will often compose a sentence or two that can later be used in one of your better efforts.
I think that for those still learning the art of writing poetry (who isn't) that doing as much of the homework as possible is of great value, and although I have been very slack in this area myself of late, I still recognize the value it's been to me.

Good on you Zondrae,

Terry
