Good luck Irene (you too Zondrae) ... don't forget, Polish dill pickles are great brain food ... or they clear out something or other (not sure which - I forget)... Smiley

Cheers,

Manfred.

hi Irene,

How'd YOU go? Myself, well I had a real mixed bag.

Majors Creek was pretty good and I had the chance to present 6 of my poems. Most of them I remembered well enough to recite without referring to the page. I feel at home there and the nerves don't get me too much.

Dalgety was another story. My first poem went really well. I felt like a real professional and felt I looked like one too. Now the second poem I started great then after the third stanza I had a complete blank. Luckily Lee Taylor Friend, who was the poetry co ordinator, had a copy of all the poems that had been entered in their comp with her and I was able to pick up from the prompt and finish. Spoiled the flow of the amusing nature of the poem though. (note to self: practice, practice, practice)

I hope you had an enjoyable experience and will do it again.

Hi all,
Have had our weekend, and wanted to thank you all for your advice beforehand.
The breakfast went off really well - the Lions club sold the whole 400 rolls they had, so had a good turn out of people there!! (for a small place)
The poet we had who does poetry on ABC radio reads his poems, and always has a good following, and I decided that that was good enough for me for the first time, so I have to admit that I cheated and read mine. The first time I stood up was really very daunting, especially as I had to follow Corin, who is well practised at it, but the next couple of times, were a lot easier - I was able to look around the audience without referring to my paper all the time.
We had  two early highschool students who did one each, as well as a couple of other adults who were new to it as well, so that made it much easier. - we were all in the same boat!!
However, I am glad that I did it, and there was a lot of positive feedback - the audience was really attentive, and a lot of people have asked the organising committee when they are holding another one, so looks like it will be happening again at some time.

Glad to see your events went well Zondrae, albeit with some forgotten lines!! Were they competitions you were in, or just recitals?

Well done Irene,

Now you will go on to bigger and better things. The first time at anything is always the hardest. Glad to hear you had a good crowd.

The sessions I attended were just recitals. The competition component of Dalgety had been pre-judged on written work only. Kym Eitel scooped the pool.

Oi !!  Good onya Irene:

Wish I had been there to see ya in action - however, I DID see you afterall in Three Springs, and You know I try not to see anyone twice in the same year. (just in case they think I am stalking them)

Please drop me an Email and tell me how it went, or wait till I see you NEXT year sometime, and tell me then.

Take care Lady, and I trust your family were all proud of you!

Kio,
Did you drop off the planet, or just out of circulation for awhile?!?
I waited Sunday morning for you to turn up with your poems for recital, but alas, I waited in vain!!!

I trust my family are not yet aware that I was experimenting in that field - have a way to go to be passable!!

Have a good Christmas - will be in touch.
