G'day all,

Well after some exhaustive searching, I believe I have come up with the best available Forum software around.  Although it appears that I have been able to transfer all members and posts successfully, I am still expecting some teething problems.  It is still a computer programme after all.

MOST IMPORTANT
If you have the Forum in your Bookmarks (for the more astute amongst you who use Firefox) or in your Favourites (for the less astute running the Microshaft browser), please delete the old bookmark and rebookmark the site.  If you enter the Forum through the main site, all the links have been upgraded anyway.

This Forum will give me much greater control over the registration and deletion of bogus registrants.  We have been getting up to 15 a day and it is an enormous job to go through each one and delete them.

If anyone has any questions, problems or comments, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Ric

Hi Ric,

Looks Schmick. Keep up the good work. I have been deleting any really bogus posts. Catch you later. Thanks for maintaining the site. Have you considered asking for some form of membership or danation to help you cover costs. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be willing to chip in a little.

After writing the above. I went out of the site and then back in using the existing bookmark link in Firefix and didn't have to change anything.

G'day Zondrae,

Thank for your kind comments.

Althought the bookmark will work at the moment, it is because I have written a redirection file and placed it on the server.  All the old forum files are still there as well for safety net purposes.  At some stage in the future, all these will be deleted and that is why it is important to upgrade the bookmark.

As for a donation, there is a PayPal button top right of screen.  Totally optional, but has been there all along.  This site has been online for 9 years now and will continue to go on donations or not.  That's not why it's here.  If my new plans for the site come off, which only involve about another two weeks work (lol), then we can really start taking bush poetry to the world and become a huge repository for an enormous amount of work.

Hi Ric
I'm impressed - the sites looking good, but have to take a bit of time to get used to it again.
Only one problem - your clock seems to have its am & pm's around the wrong way - it's saying you posted at 8.03pm today. I know we're a little behind the time over here in the west, but I didn't think it was by that much time!!!  Wink Huh Grin

Can we still delete the spam posts, or have you got that happening differently now?

Hmmmm  Huh Huh
Seems it's not us over in the west that are behind - it's the east coast!!!
We make it January 31st over here - seems you are still on 30th Jan over there!!  Grin Grin Grin

G'day Irene,

Still working on this time thing.  It seems that this Forum bases its time around the location of the server where it is installed.  I'm operating out of the US.  Then as a user, you need to adjust your time setting, which the software will do automatically for you when you go into your profile.  Have a look around in there and see what you can see.

As for deleting spam posts etc, you should see that you have four lovely little blue stars beneath your name and the terms "Super Member" and "Global Moderator".  The latter means that you can moderate any post, anywhere on the Forum.

It threw me when I first saw the new site, but now I'm getting used to it and like it now.  Old mares are slow to learn new tricks.

It's got some pretty fancy do-dads and thingummy-bobs (I'm a bit scared to use them though) Wow, that's cool!!!

Hmmm, what's this one do?  Nothing, that I can tell.

And I think this one makes the words run away ...

What's teletype? ... boring!

Superscript ...  Subscript ...

Code:
Insert code ... what code???
Shocked

I'll check out the rest later.  Thanks Ric, this is fun!

Very clever Manfred, your colour green didn't work, better go back and fix that ...

G'day all,

Well I am very pleased to say that since installing the new Forum software that there hasn't been one single bogus registration.  I was spending up to an hour a day deleting these nuisance registrations, so now I have an extra hour a day drinking time......  Grin Grin.

One shortfall I have noticed with the new Forum is that some of your signatures have dropped the first letter.  Some of you probably already know this as they are OK.  If you haven't, then go into your Profile area and check your sig to appear on the bottom of each post.  Remember, this doesn't just have to be a byline.  You can put, Regards, a few blank lines and your name and then a byline if you wish to save typing your name every time.  Anyway, it's up to you.

Thank you for all the positive comments to date.
