Our PM lashed out at a US Presidential hopeful for promising to pull out of Iraq as part of his platform. Well, a gross breach of protocol such as this was too tempting to pass up …

For the technical:
Rhyming scheme abab
Metre anapaest [4 1/2],[4],[4 1/2],[4]
triple-syllable endrhyme on the 'a' rhymes

I've been toying with triple-syllable end-rhymes and welcome any feedback.

Cheers,

Manfred.

PS. NO subject is off-limits to a poet.

Parading on World's stage is quite the grand strut old son
when following fools to engage in a war.
To disengage, you'd accuse all of a "cut and run"
Well nobody wants us there - what's it all for?

It's unpatriotic if we dare to criticise
and question your motives and unseemly acts.
Those running for 'Prez' - tell me, why would you kick these guys -
then hide behind "free speech" (play loose with the facts)?

So tell me please tell me where does the dishonour lie,
in Strategic withdrawal; preserving our own
or putting our Finest in harm's way based on a lie?
Hypocrite and a fool how will you atone?

G'day Manfred,
Social comment should not be off limit to anybody at any time...
Not too sure about the 'rat tat tat' rhyme pattern, it may sit better
with different choice of subject matter...meantime, just help keeping the bastards honest, old Mate...

Onya Bernie, the two phrases that were the drivers for this piece were, "cut and run" and "based on a lie" and they both came across as anapaestic (ratatat) to me.

No matter what 'flavour' the polly is, sometimes they come out with stuff that one shouldn't let slip past ...  and it doesn't matter how they spin it, bullsh_t is still bullsh_t, and it sticks.

I often wonder what old Henry woulda writ ...

Cheers old Mate ...

Manfred

Not sure Manfred...depends largely on thirst...perhaps something
of the nature of...

"If you made the front bench as a Pollie,
would you then give up work for good?
The bastard to the world replied, ..."

or maybe something more adequate, away from a favoured
watering hole.
Cheers old Mate,
                       Bernie.
