CRITERIAThese are the CRITERIA on which your performance is being assessed.
In the usually-accepted terminology...
TIME LIMIT PENALTY - The time limit will be strictly adhered to. Exceeding this limit will incur a penalty of 20 points deducted from the total score. The competitors will be notified if they exceed the time limit.
PREAMBLE is the Performer's INTRODUCTION. What is said to help the audience set in the right mood - or help to enjoy it more for having heard what is told to them before they start. The preamble must contain the name of the poem, and if non original, the name of the poet.
START OF THE PERFORMANCE - Does the Performer IMMEDIATELY get your attention, and interest you in what he/she is saying. Does he/she make a favourable impression, helped by his/her stance, body language and facial expression? (The 'START" covers only the first one or two stanzas.)
BODY OF THE PERFORMANCE - Does the Performer hold your attention through to the end? Can you follow his/her story (or thoughts) easily? Does he/she exhibit annoying habits, (such as MONOTONY of presentation, gestures, vocal intonation patterns, inappropriate body movement or facial expressions, etc. Fidgets has poor microphone technique, or poor stance, etc. etc....) Does he/she treat the TEXT of the Poem intelligently? (eg. Is the text too "fractured"? Are pauses made where they shouldn't be? Or not made where they should be? Is there appropriate variation in pace, volume and pitch?
CONCLUSION OF THE PERFORMANCE - Does the performance BUILD TO AN APPROPRIATE CLIMAX. Are we left SATISFIED that the performance has concluded APPROPRIATELY?
AUDIBILITY covers not only "Is he/she LOUD enough?" But also "Can I understand ALL that he/she is saying? Or does the voice drop off at the ends of some of the lines?" And "Do I have to strain to understand what he/she is saying?"
IMPACT (How deeply involved/engaged were YOU through the performance?). Gives the judges the chance to mark up something they REALLY THOUGHT WAS A PARTICULARLY FINE PERFORMANCE - or mark down one that was below par.
MEMORISATION Substantial points will be deducted for major memory lapses (see Guide for Judges).
>>>---------------<<<(0)>>>---------------<<<
Guide for Judges - MEMORIZATIONFaultless memorization will receive full marks.
Major memory lapses will be heavily penalized.
A competitor who forgets his or her lines and is UNABLE TO FINISH the poem will receive NO POINTS for MEMORIZATION and NO POINTS for CONCLUSION and any other parts of the poem not completed.
A competitor who does not finish his or her poem will not be allowed to have a second try in this category.
Guide for COLLATORS - TIED SCORESTIED SCORES IN A CATEGORY - In the event of a tied score in a category, the winner will be decided by comparing the scores for Impact, with the one with the higher score being named the winner. If the Impact scores are the same, the Body of the Poem scores will be compared with the higher being the winner, and if the Body of the Poem scores are the same, the Start of the Poem scores will be compared, with the higher being the winner.
TIED SCORES FOR THE CAMP OVEN AWARD (total aggregate points) - The procedure followed will be the same as the above but in each case all four Impact scores will be totalled and compared, and if they are the same, then all four Body of the Poem scores will be totalled and compared, and then if necessary all four Start of the Poem Scores will be similarly treated.
