It looks like Roscoe will be an Alice resident forever. They tell me if you see the Todd river flow three times then you will never leave. It was once accepted that you would have to live there all your life to see it flow three times, but once again they are issuing flood warnings. Save us a couple of buckets full please Ross.
They are also talking about channeling all that excess water into Lake Eyre and making it a permanent inland reservoir. About bloody time. Should have happened many years ago. Every past or present Prime Minister or Politician still living who could have had some influence in this regard should be standing in court charged with 'NEGLECT OF DUTY"
A LAND WORTH SAVING
One hundred years ago we could have done it fought this dry brown land....and won it by turning waters inland from the coast All that water that we wasted could by cockies now be tasted it would be today, our Nation's proudest boast.
And those many dry divisions could be saved by men with vision from the sparkling lakes this water would create and it's own precipitation would make ours a greener Nation saving lives instead of generating hate.
The true backbone of our Nation are those people on the 'Stations' they're the ones who put the food upon our plates will we only understand that those people on the land should have been protected, when it's all too late?
Will the first ones to complain when the dust storms hit again be the Pollies who have got us in this mess as they sip gins in private bars about the dust on their nice cars or their wife, who got some of it on her dress?
How long must we stand by watching crops and cattle die as our Pollies vote themselves another raise Will they stand up to be counted when the final death toll's mounted and take the blame for Aussie's darkest days?

mmm,
Not so sure I agree with the President bit. It seems from history that giving one man that title goes to his head and makes him thing he's in charge. Even more so when they are elected in their own right and not as the leader of a party. I say this as a rather uneducated observer. And at the risk of having the sky fall on me I am a Royalist.

G'day Wayne
I reckon our current crop of self serving politicians would consider a Compassionate Responsible Aussie President to be so far removed from their agendas that they would consider it C.R.A.P. which is about the only thing that they are able to keep flowing. We live in hope.

I reckon being a pollie is a bit like being in office in a club or organisation, no one wants to do it but they are all keen to criticize, and all know all the answers! We live a pretty affluent life and for a country that was built by battlers, there is way too much whingeing and way too little gratitude for my liking!

I go along with yu Heyu at least it would be something they can't get done off shore, Ross old mate did you see they have shipped another icon overseas. The ROVER mower has taken off. We manufacture very little these days except pollies who have their hands in the cookie jar. We could do the enviroment a bit of good if the federal goverment invested some of the money that goes to Indonesia into a steel mill in W.A. with all the iron ore and natural gas we could export STEEL and there would be less need to use coal in China or India. What about the coal miners , well they could invest over there too. James

my two bobs worth...
It has always made me think why, when people want a drink, do they not go to a place nearer to water? Instead of optioning to stand In a dry and arid land And blaming infrastructure for their slaughter
I agree the nations heart Lies in those who play their part And embrace the hard existence on our stations And some areas can thrive, But this land will not survive If we do not work within its limitations
Take the water from the coast? Seems logical to most Who want livestock production moving faster But the long term implications Are beyond imagination And have so far just resulted in disaster
Like the snowy mountains scheme T’was an engineering dream Given all the benefits it could deliver But where the lower reaches lie, The mighty ‘Snowy’ now runs dry And we have ‘the Murray Creek’ and not the river
And the miles of irrigation From Murrumbidgee mitigation Were envisioned as a model of progress But the soil could not support The activity we thought And the salty scalded land is now a mess
There are thousands of examples Of the way that we have trampled Through this fragile continent we’ve tried to ‘solve’ But we cannot bend a land To our transient demands When it has taken eons to evolve
I think it is a noble thought That some enterprise be sought And this land may well fulfil our expectation But environmental health Is this country’s ONLY wealth And its future is our first consideration

fantastic write andrew. and so true. the pollies claim there isnt the funds to commit, blah blah blah. cut their highly over inflated wages and especially ridiculous amounts they have given themselves in super, that would be sure to provide the much needed input. any party that promised to deliver a substantial pay and super cut, would have a foot in the 'parliament house' door.

Yep...the only "Statesman" left is a multi-national optioned motor car!!
The 'politician' stands behind the country, that's for sure....way, way behind, so the general polpulus don't notice him stuffing his wallet, not to mention other minor things like Nation, ecology and economy...human nature is very hard to escape...too many walls and too many, rabbits?? Bernie.
