Roma and Basset park,
Haven't been there since 69 and 70.In 69 took two horses to the first Roma show at the new Basset Park.Took two horses out,one showjumper named 007 and my novelty pony.Jumped big fences up to 5ft 6in by 6ft spread for three days .Had one rail down and one refusal.Geoff Richards from Tasmania had Kevin Bacons 6 horses as he was at the olympic games and 6of Robbie Allens from NSW.Never got a cracker, beaten on time.My novelty pony took second in the Bending race which wasn't bad as they're pretty fast out there.Brings back fond memories and a few tales I can't tell.Hoping to spend a day there when we head to Winton later in the year.In 1970 I had a horse come down on me going over a fence at Wallumbilla the week before and broke my collarbone so didn't ride very well.Remember Roma well

Horses for courses Merv
Sorry,I prefer the thrill of being on the road with horses for around 5weeks,8 different shows though I didn't win much.As a young bloke saw Slim Dusty,Chad Morgan,Gill brothers rodeo,Snowy river stampede,a few girly shows[though I didn't go]and others I've probably forgotten.Never missed a grand parade where us young blokes would lust over the show queen carried around the ring in the local holden dealers new car.Must be my mid life crisis[may be a good subject for a poem]but I've this strong urge to grab a couple of good horses and hit the road again, though I don't know about the show queens these days. The feel and atmosphere of an Ag show and riding in one is something I can't explain it has to be felt.I have heard of people who in their later years the mind goes back to their younger days.Maybe I mightn't get there physically maybe one day mentally
but we all have dreams to work towards regards Jim
