I came across this and know it has never been posted before. My nephew with whom I had exchanged many poems and e-mails was in hospital and this was just keeping the links open. This was our last exchange .James

The March of Time

There is a silence now, when once we talked
The streets are gone, and places where we walked
But memories of other times, still gladly stay
And help us through the night, until it’s day
An endless stream of things, great and small
A hasty statement made, that we can’t recall
Or the face of some loved one, which we knew
Brings tears to our eyes, like morning dew

A line or two of poems, that have been spoken
Strikes at the heart, and ensures that it is broken
While a few bars, of a favored childhood song
May set our pulses racing, all night long
Or the glimpse of one scene, from our youth
Gives to us the strength, to face the truth
That it matters not, if something’s not real
Our mind will guide, and tell us how to feel

Time with every second wings away
And none of us have power to bid it stay
Or move with us at the pace we set
Those who try have never changed it yet
Through we try to hold things from the past
Like dreams they disappear and seldom last
And all that’s left are just our memories
To fill our hearts and souls and give us ease

Can someone tell me,

What is the little 'thumbs down' at the left of this post?

James,  Losing someone close and dear is never easy. Hope you are coming to terms with it and finding comfort in fond memories. I heard on the TV tonight a philosophy that says, whenever we speak the name of one departed, they live again.

Zondrae - I was wondering the same thing myself. I noticed a post somewhere else that had a thumbs up sign also.

James,
That is a really wonderful poem. What a lovely sentiments for your nephew to receive before his death - I am sure he would have treasured it.

Good day to you Zondrae and Irene the thumbs down is a new one on me . I noticed that on the right hand side there is a x on the remove sign. Perhaps Ric could tell us if something is not right
Just recently my great nephew has taken up the gap left by  his father he is the one who translated A Poet's Dream.  James

oh well, Manfred,  Cry

Maybe next year.. Your family always comes first.  Did you get the job of walking the bride down the aisle? Not all the young ones do this these days. Some friends of ours, whos daughter married three weeks ago, insisted she walk by herself. As it was not in a church it didn't look too odd. Best of luck to you and your family on the happy day.  Wink

That's beautiful James.  Controlling the passage of time is one of the few things humans have never mastered.  If I could control time, I'd make puppies stay puppies!
