                          CAMPING OUT.

The morning Sun is peeping, and all the dewdrops glisten;

and Kookas laugh while Cockies screech for their mates to listen.

A fresh scent of eucalyptus rides on the morning breeze

while the mighty Murray ambles past gnarly red-gum trees.

And once again, the bush life wakes to greet another day;

the nocturnals have surrendered - diurnals join their fray.

The bush jigsaw creatures mingle while others rest in sleep;

skilful nature forms a balance as the Sun starts to creep.

Ripples on the river glow as they wend beneath the Sun,

and Gum leaves dance and flutter as the breeze excites each one.

I absorb all this beauty while my billy spirals steam.

Then awaken in my city bed - for it's just another dream.

                  SHADOWS IN THE MOONLIGHT.

The night was closing in with distant shimmers in the haze.

An evening chill descended, and the campfire was ablaze.

And a myriad of stars above all seemed locked in time,

below them two mates camping that was now well past their prime.

In the shadows of the moonlight, we spoke of finding gold;

we reminisced about things that we used to do from old.

We're here to try our luck once more before it gets too late,

each knowing we would be elsewhere if either met our fate.

The morning after, we set out to find our pot of gold

then hopefully be rewarded when all our lot gets sold.

But shortly before sunrise, I woke to another day;

then knowing it was five years since my old mate passed away.
