A bit of a bio on myself:

Well, I’m a retired teacher, living in Cooranbong NSW, a small town near Newcastle. I have always been keen on writing verse, especially humorous verse, and have had a few poems published in magazines.

As a younger man I spent many years as a Patrol Officer in New Guinea and this gave me a bit of a feel for the bush and the outdoors.

Ambition: To earn my spurs as a “bush poet” and to have a collection of bush poems published in Australia.

Footnote: Laurie died on 15 July 2019 at his home in Cooranbong NSW. He was a kiap, teacher, writer and poet. This article, taken from his memoir ‘Pretzel Legs’, was published in PNG Attitude on 25 January 2011. There are copies of ‘Pretzel Legs’ available on e-bay apparently.
